The Hudson River : A Voyage Through Time

The Hudson River : A Voyage Through Time

The Hudson River is one of America’s treasures. Long before English explorer Henry Hudson sailed up the river in 1609, the waterway was a main travel route for Native Americans. Until the Mississippi Valley was settled two centuries later, the Hudson was the nation’s most prominent waterway. The river’s dramatic scenery soon became world-renowned and a popular subject for artists and writers. As publishing developed in New York in the 19th century, the sublime locales along the river found expression in ink as pictures and travel accounts.
